Depression Cake

Ingredients Gathering: Gather 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 cup of granulated sugar, 1/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1 tablespoon of vinegar (white or apple cider vinegar), 1/3 cup of vegetable oil, and 1 cup of water.

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch square baking pan or a 9-inch round cake pan with cooking spray or butter.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well combined.

Add Wet Ingredients: Make three wells in the dry ingredient mixture. Pour the vanilla extract into one well, vinegar into another, and vegetable oil into the third. Pour the water over everything.

1. Mix Batter: Use a spoon or spatula to mix the batter until smooth and well combined. Make sure there are no lumps in the batter.

Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
