What Are Dippy Eggs, and How Do You Make Them?

A dippy egg is a soft-boiled egg served with toast cut into long, narrow strips called soldiers.

The eggs are traditionally left unpeeled and served in adorable egg cups that hold them upright to facilitate yummy toast-dipping action.

Ingredients 3 large eggs 3 slices bread (choose something that's sturdy once toasted) Butter, for spreading on the toast Pinch of salt, optional

Directions Bring a small pot of water to a gentle boil. Then, carefully lower the eggs into the boiling water and cook for 5-6 minutes.

Remove promptly to a bowl of cold water and let cool slightly.

While the eggs cool, toast your bread (don't make these toaster mistakes). Spread generously with butter and cut into narrow strips about 1/2-inch wide. Set aside.

Use a spoon or sharp knife to remove the top portion of the egg's shell and white to reveal the soft-cooked yolk. Place the eggs upright in an egg cup and pair with toast soldiers for dipping.
